How to Add a Motivational Quotes Widget to Your iPhone Home Screen
A motivation widget turns every glance at your phone into a small mental reset. Here's exactly how to set one up with Badass Motivation — home screen and lock screen — in under two minutes.
Why a widget beats an app icon
You unlock your phone dozens of times a day, and most of those unlocks lead somewhere unhelpful. A quotes widget flips that: before you can even open the app you were reaching for, a strong line of text is already in front of you. No tap required, no decision required — the motivation is simply there, at eye level, every single time.
Be not afraid of moving slowly, be only afraid of standing still.
That's the kind of sentence you want to collide with at 7am — not another red notification badge.
Add the widget to your iPhone home screen
- Install Badass Motivation and open it once, so iOS registers its widgets. (Download free here.)
- Long-press any empty area of your home screen until the apps start to jiggle.
- Tap the + button in the top-left corner (on iOS 18, tap Edit → Add Widget).
- Search for Badass Motivation in the Widget Gallery.
- Swipe to choose a widget size — small, medium, or large.
- Tap Add Widget, drag it into position, then tap Done.
Which size should you pick?
- Small — a compact daily line, ideal next to your most-used apps.
- Medium — the sweet spot: full quotes stay readable without dominating the screen.
- Large — a statement piece. Give the quote its own zone at the top of your first page.
Add a lock screen widget
Lock screen widgets are even lower friction — you see them before you even unlock:
- Long-press your lock screen (Face ID unlocked), then tap Customize.
- Choose Lock Screen, then tap the widget area below the clock.
- Select Badass Motivation from the widget list and tap to add.
- Tap Done. A rotating quote now lives above your notifications.
Combine this with daily reminder notifications and you get two independent touchpoints: motivation that's pushed to you, and motivation that's waiting for you.
Put a quote on your home screen today
Free to download. Widgets for home screen and lock screen included.
Configure how often quotes refresh
Inside the app, choose which of the 20 categories feed your widget — self-development, fitness, leadership, and more — and the widget rotates fresh quotes on schedule throughout the day. Tap the widget any time to open the full quote in the app, save it to a collection, or share it.
Placement tips for maximum impact
- First page, top half. Your eyes land there first on every unlock.
- Next to your biggest time-sink. Put the widget beside Instagram or TikTok — a deliberate speed bump before the scroll.
- Match your theme. With 12+ themes and fonts in the app, pick a look that fits your wallpaper so you actually keep it.
The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.
Two minutes of setup, then it works forever. That's the best kind of self-improvement: the kind you only have to do once.
On Android?
